Pathogenesis of Glaucoma

چکیده

Glaucoma, a neurodegenerative disease, has varied pathogenesis scenario, including elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), and hypoxic conditions in the retina. Consequently, degenerating optic axons at nerve head are observed clinically when extensive damage already occurred. Following IOP, changes retinal ganglion cells lead to apoptosis immediately followed by degeneration of their axons. Degradation leads cupping visual field losses. Here we emphasize that it is initial targets and, together with hyperactivity astrocytes, create ischemic which represent earliest sign glaucoma.

[Pathogenesis of glaucoma].

The factors that determine the development of retinal/optic nerve damage and loss of visual function have not been fully identified. While the intraocular pressure (IOP) level is the major risk factor, other issues such as the tolerance of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in the individual patient, the role of the supporting connective tissue at the lamina cri-brosa, autoregulation of local blood ...

Homocysteine in the Pathogenesis of Chronic Glaucoma

1.1 Metabolic pathway Methionine is one of four amino acids that form succinyl CoA. This sulphur containing amino acid is the source of homocysteine (Hcy). It is converted to S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), the major methyl-group donor in one–carbon metabolism. The synthesis of SAM occurs when methionine condenses with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by the hydrolysis of all three phosphate bonds. The...

Neovascular Secondary Glaucoma, Etiology and Pathogenesis.

RATIONALE Neovascular secondary glaucoma is a condition characterized by increased intraocular pressure due to the neovascularization occurring at the iridocorneal angle and iris, the most common complication of end-stage ischemic retina. The early diagnosis and treatment of this disease are important, because the functional prognosis is reserved. OBJECTIVE Knowing and understanding the etiol...

Pathogenesis of Orderly Loss of Nerve Fibers in Glaucoma

Chronic Glaucoma, commonly known as glaucoma, is a misunderstood disease since given a separate entity in the 1850s. Currently, there are many conflicting views of glaucoma but on one issue we have complete agreement: the million or so densely packed nerve fibers (NFs) in the optic nerve head (ONH) are being destroyed in an orderly tandem fashion from peripheral to central, never randomly–a pat...

Relationship between the Pathogenesis of Glaucoma and miRNA.

Small RNA (microRNA or miRNA) is a kind of small noncoding single-stranded RNA that regulates complementary mRNA at the posttranscriptional level in eukaryotic organisms. As important regulatory factors, miRNAs play an important role in the occurrence and development of glaucoma and widely participate in regulating biological processes of glaucoma-related genes. This article reviews the connect...
